AIDS Day Dec 1, 2022:
The
day is observed worldwide to support people living with and affected by HIV and
to remember those who have lost their lives to AIDS. (Acquired Immunodeficiency
Syndrome) This day raises awareness to unite people around the world in the
fight against the global health problem of AIDS.
The
theme of World AIDS Day is similar. World AIDS Day is important to fight the
stigma surrounding it, focusing on providing care and support to those already
living with the disease. Like most major public health issues the HIV epidemic
is only presented with further challenges due to the Covid-19
pandemic.
World
AIDS Day was first introduced in August 1988 by James W.
Bunn and Thomas Netter are hired to get some control over the epidemic that has
claimed so many lives. When World AIDS Day was launched in 1988,
it was estimated that 90,000 to 150,000
people were HIV positive, leading to AIDS. They conveyed the idea of observing the day to Dr. Jonathan
Mann, director of the AIDS Global Program, who approved it on December 1. Research and clinical practice since the 1990s
have made significant advances in the care of people living with HIV.
2. India will formally assume the G-20 presidency from 1 Dec 2022. To mark the occasion, 100 memorials with the G-20 symbol will be lit and several events will be held across the country.
Theme of India's G-20 Presidency- Vasudhaiva Family One Land One Family One Future. It affirms the value of life.
100 monuments including UNESCO World
Heritage Sites bearing the G 20 logo will light up for
seven days from 1 Dec to 7 Dec 2022. The logo is inspired by the vibrant colors of India's
national flag. It pairs planet Earth with India's national flower, the lotus,
which symbolizes growth amidst challenges. Represents India's pro-planetary
approach to life on Earth. This is a big opportunity for India as the country
gets global center stage. India will hold around 200
meetings in 32 different sectors at various locations
across the country during the presidency. The list of 100
places to shine includes Humayun's Tomb and Purana Quila in Delhi, Modhera Sun
Temple in Gujarat, Konark Sun Temple in Odisha and Sher Shah Suri Samadhi in
Bihar.
The
G-20 includes Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China,
France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico,
Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom and the countries.
The United States, and the European Union.
3. 22nd FIFA World Cup 2022:
FIFA
announced that France's Stephanie Fraparte will be the first woman to referee a
men's World Cup match. She will officiate the Group E match between Germany and
Costa Rica on 2 Dec 2022. France's
Frapart is one of the 36 female referees selected for the
tournament in Qatar, along with Rwandan official Salima Mukansanga and Japan's
Yoshimi Yamashita. Three other female officials went to the World Cup as
assistant referees. The 22nd FIFA World Cup 2022
kicks off in Al Khor, Qatar
For
the 38-year-old Fraparte, refereeing her men's World Cup
match is the latest step in her rapid rise to the top in Europe. She became the
first woman to referee in France's Ligue 1 in 2019, the same year she took charge of the Women's World Cup
final in her home country.
4. South Korea's Mina Sue Choi was crowned Miss Earth 2022 during the pageant's coronation night on November 29 at the Okada Hotel in Cove Manila Parañaque City. Out of 86 environmental warriors, only three queens have won all three titles of the pageant.
Choi also picked up some medals during the pre-pageant activities of Miss Fire 2022 Andrea Aguilera of Colombia, Miss Water 2022 Nadine Ayoub of Palestine and Miss Air 2022 Sheridan Mortlock of Australia. She won the resort wear, long gown, beach wear and swimsuit competitions. The new queen inherits the title from Destiny Wagner. She is the first woman from Belize to win a major international crown. Destiny Wagner won the virtual competition held in 2021. Queens of the Elements are crowned at the very end. Filipino American psychology student Jenny Ramp from Tarlac province, representing the Philippines, rounded out the top 20. She was also declared Best in Fauna Costume for Asia and Oceania.
To
date, four Filipino women have received the title including Carla Henry in
2008, Jamie Herrell in 2014, Angelia Ong in 2015 and Karen Ibasco in 2017.

International Day for the Abolition of Slavery 2022:
The
International Day for the Abolition of Slavery is celebrated every year on Dec
2. The day is celebrated to commemorate the evils of slavery, forced labour,
child labor and sexual exploitation and trafficking and to eradicate slavery
practiced in our times. Why its complete eradication is necessary, slavery
continues today through forced labour, child labour, trafficking of women and
children and illegal organ harvesting etc.
Forced labor and forced marriages have increased over the past five years, as noted by the United Nations. The UN says the number of modern slaves will rise to 50 million by the end of 2021. International Day for the Abolition of Slavery is an important day that encourages us all to end such atrocities.
Slavery
has existed since Sumerian and Mesopotamian times. In present times ISIS and
Boko Haram terrorists have used non-Muslim women as sex slaves. Slavery was
practiced in the empires of Egypt, ancient Greece and Rome, and the Viking rule
of Britain. The transatlantic slave trade of African peoples began with the
Portuguese. Also practiced by Dutch, English and French merchants.
During
the 17th and 18th centuries, countless African people were enslaved to America
until Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, completely
abolished slavery in the United States in 1865.
On Dec 2, 1949, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 317 (IV) of the United Nations Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others. International Day for the Abolition of Slavery is celebrated on Dec 2 to mark the above convention.

World Computer Literacy Day 2022:
2nd
December is observed as International Computer Literacy Day. It was started in
2001 by world famous Indian computer institute NIIT. Today is completely
dedicated to computers. How they become important concerns with the
modernization of the planet. This day promotes technical skills especially
among children and women. It aims to motivate them to learn more and make their
work easier by using computers.
World
Computer Literacy Day was started in 2001 by N.I.I.T, an Indian institute to
commemorate its 22nd anniversary. Started
in 1981 by Rajendra Singh Pawar and Vijay K. Thadani, N.I.I.T. is a
National Institute of Information Technology, an organization that develops
skills and talent. The company established World Computer Literacy Day in
response to a study that revealed that men make up the majority of computer
users in the world. Consequently by equipping more women and children with
computer literacy skills N.I.I.T. Since its inception in 1981, the company has
expanded to over 30 countries worldwide.
The
history of the computer can be traced back to the early 1820s when Charles Babbage
invented the difference engine. It is a mechanical computer that can perform
simple calculations. Before this invention people used all sorts of inventions
to perform calculations using the abacus, Napier's bones, Pascaline's adding
machine and the Leibniz wheel. However, the difference is what separates the
engine from others before it. It is powered by steam and can solve logarithm
tables. Since then computers have gone through various improvements and designs
to become laptops, phones and desktop computers. In the past computers used to
be huge enough to occupy the entire length of a room but thanks to modern
technology. We are able to keep that science and technology in the palm of our
hands.

First, four US Army officers of the 11th Air Division were promoted on Nanda
Devi, India's second highest Himalayan peak, during the 18th edition of the
India-US joint military exercise Yudh Prabhaya in Uttarakhand. Captain Cerruti,
Lieutenant Russell, Lieutenant Brown, and Lieutenant Haque became the first
four US Army officers to be promoted in the Himalayas during Exercise Yud Phai.
US soldiers from the 2nd Brigade of the 11th Airborne Division and Indian Army
soldiers from the Assam Regiment are part of a two-week joint military
exercise.
The
Yudh Prahya is held every year between India and the US with the aim of
exchanging best practices, tactics, techniques and procedures between the
armies of the two countries. The objective of the exercise is to enhance
interaction and expertise sharing in peacekeeping and disaster relief
operations between the two armies. The joint exercise will also focus on
humanitarian aid and disaster relief operations.
Nanda
Devi is the second highest mountain in India after Kanchenjunga and is entirely
within India. Kanchenjunga is reveal on the border between India and Nepal. It
is reveal in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state. It is the 23rd highest peak
in the world. Nanda Devi peak is a part of Garhwal Himalayas.

23rd Hornbill Festival 2022:
The
23rd Hornbill Festival 2022 begins at Nagaland's Naga Heritage Village, Kisama.
The famous Hornbill Festival of Nagaland is scheduled from Dec 1 to Dec 10,
2022. Now the Hornbill Festival in Nagaland has been welcoming visitors from
all over the world for more than 20 years. During the ten-day festival a
visitor gets a chance to see all the Naga tribes, their culture and uniqueness
at one place. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar was the chief guest for the
inauguration of the festival.

of Nagaland is maintained by the Government of Nagaland. Primarily to encourage
inter-tribal interactions and to promote the cultural heritage of Nagaland.
More than 130 stalls are set up in Kisama during this year's 10-day festival.
This includes 100 stalls in Micro Small & Medium Enterprises and 32 in
temporary stalls. Daily cultural events include music festivals, photo fest,
fashion shows, adventure sports, night carnivals etc.
Hornbill
is an Indian bird, also known as concave hornbill. It is a larger members of
the hornbill family. It is ground in the
Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. The bird is an important part of tribal
culture and is known for its size and color. The Indian hornbill is a cultural
symbol of the Naga people and a part of the folklore of many tribes.
Other
famous festivals of Nagaland include Motsu festival, Ngada festival, Monyu
festival, Aoleng festival.
