 UK's new home secretary: Indian-origin lawyer Suella Braverman has been appointed by Liz Truss as the country's new home secretary by the new British prime minister.

 

Liz Truss, the new British Prime Minister, has appointed Indian-origin lawyer Suella Braverman as the country's new Home Secretary. Suella Braverman will be selected to replace Priti Patel who is of Indian origin. She previously served as Attorney General in the Boris Johnson administration.

After completing her legal studies at Heathfield School in London, Suella Braverman attended Queen's College, Cambridge. Suella Braverman earned a master's degree in European and French law from the University of Paris 1, Pantheon-Sorbonne, and then practiced law in New York.

 

In the 2005 general election, Suella Braverman contested from Leicester East.

Suella Braverman won the seat representing Fareham as a member of the Conservative Party in May 2015. Re-elected in 2017 and 2019. Held the post of Attorney General from February 2020 to September 2022.
