Indian Army has overtaken China as the largest ground force in the world.

The Indian Army has about 1.4 million personnel.

The Indian Army is the largest standing volunteer army in the world with 11,29,900 active personnel and 9,60,000 reserves. There are Recruiting Zones in the country for recruitment in Indian Army. Indian Army Headquarters is located in New Delhi. The first headquarters of Indian Army is Red Fort, Delhi. Today parts of the South Block are adjacent to the massive, architecturally modern Sena Bhavan. In India, the command headquarters is known as Field Army. The General Officer Commanding in Chief, a three-star lieutenant general, presides over affairs.

The Chief of Staff of Indian Army is called Chief of Army Staff.

The present Army Chief is General Manoj Mukund Naravane. The Indian Army also has a Vice Chief and two Deputy Chiefs of Army Staff. Corps Field Force in Indian Army are of two types namely Holding Corps and Strike Corps.
