1. National Film Day was earlier announced to be held on September 16 but it was rescheduled to September 23 on the request of various stakeholders. Today, 4,000 screens in multiplexes across the country have come together to offer a "celebratory admission price" of Rs 75 to mark National Film Day.

2. The G4 group has expressed its concern over the lack of any meaningful forward movement on the long pending reform of the UN Security Council (UNSC), calling for urgency on the issue.

 The Foreign Ministers of the G4 countries held a virtual meeting to coincide with the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, where they extensively discussed the need for urgent reforms of the UNSC. A joint press release said the foreign ministers of the G4 countries highlighted the need to reform the UN and update its main decision-making bodies to better reflect contemporary realities.

France supports the addition of the G4 and an African representative as a permanent member with no objection to extending the veto power to new permanent members. The UK will support the G4 as new members without veto power.

 

3. Edible oil trade associations in South Asia have announced the formation of the Asian Palm Oil Alliance (APOA). The five palm oil importing countries are India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal. The idea is to harness procurement bargaining power and stabilize imports.

 Through APOA we aim to protect the economic and business interests of palm oil consuming countries and work towards increasing the consumption of palm oil in member countries," said Atul Chaturvedi, President of Solvent Extractors Association of India (SEA) and the first APOA Chairman.

Annual edible oil imports in India are around 13-14 million tonnes. The world's largest palm oil exporters are Indonesia and Malaysia. India is the largest importer of palm oil in Asia accounting for 15% of world imports. China (9%), Pakistan (4%) and Bangladesh (2%) followed.

 

4. Antyodaya Divas is celebrated on September 25. It marks the birthday of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay. Celebrated in his honor to commemorate his life and legacy. He is one of the most prominent figures in Indian political history. This year Antyodaya Divas marks Upadhyaya's 105th birth anniversary. He was the co-founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS) and an ideologue of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

 

5. According to the Sample Registration System (SRS) Statistical Report 2020, India's under-5 mortality rate has decreased by 3 points, making India's under-5 mortality rate significantly lower. The biggest fall was observed in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Karnataka
